Bicoloured Hawk

Accipiter bicolor

This forest raptor ranges from eastern Mexico down through Central America and through much of South America. Despite this large range it is rarely seen and little known. In our region it is probably confined to forests of the Caribbean slope, though Howell and Webb cite Griscom as mentioning a possible sighting from the Pacific slope. Monroe also states that it is probably found in monsoon forest on the Pacific slope of Honduras, though it has not been found there yet. My only sighting is from within the primary rainforest just north of Las Marias in Mosquitia, Honduras.
