Black-eared
Wood-Quail
Odontophorus
melanotis
|
 |
This species is sometimes considered a subspecies of the Rufous-fronted
Wood-Quail Odontophorus erythrops of northern South
America. If considered as a separate species, it is a Central
America endemic with a range that extends from Panama to eastern
Honduras, at least as far as Lancetilla Botanic Gardens. The
four records mentioned by Monroe are from the north coast and
the Olancho. However, Bonta and Anderson (who both worked extensively
in eastern Honduras) consider this to be a common species in
the country. My only sightings of this species have been in
Costa Rica.
