This is a common bird along both coasts, though there do not
appear to be any breeding colonies in the waters of our region.
This is surprising, as they are present on the coasts in all
months. They occasionally move further inland; I have one inland
record of a bird on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala and of a bird
on Lago Yojoa in Honduras. Monroe also reports one sighting
from Lago Yojoa. They tend to stick to the coast, though I have
see birds sitting on a shrimp vessel about 40 miles from land.
