| This species reaches the southern
edge of its winter range in our region. Howell and Webb consider
the species to be an uncommon to rare winter visitor to northern
Central America and confine the range almost entirely to Guatemala.
Land described it as rare in Guatemala and confined to the highlands
west of Guatemala City and at Coban. Monroe reported only two
Honduran records of this species in the Gulf of Fonseca in southern
Honduras, yet Bonta and Anderson give the status as uncommon
(seen less than once a week but every few months). Komar and
Dominguez classify the species as a migrant in El Salvador (which
means that there are at least 5 records). This elevation of
the status in recent publications might represent a real change
in status, but more likely is a result of better coverage and
an improvement in identification skills. I have only once ever
identified this species with certainty, which was a single bird
at Finca Giralda, in the hills just west of Santa Tecla in El
Salvador. |
