The range map in Howell and Webb shows this species as present
right along the Caribbean slope of northern Central America,
though absent from much of the highlands and drier areas of
the interior. Like all the tinamous, this species is most easily
located by its haunting call, though they can be difficult to
observe well. They are often seen on paths in the forest, where
they usually walk away into the undergrowth. If you are quiet,
it is often possible to sneak up and get views as they walk
away on the forest floor. I have seen or heard this species
in Honduras at Cerro Azul, Copan, Tempiscapa, La Muralla, Lancetilla,
Las Marias and Pico Bonito. My only sightings in Guatemala have
been at Tikal.
