Grey-headed Kite

Leptodon cayanensis

This is an uncommon species throughout the region, mainly in the low to mid elevations of both slopes. I have only ever seen this species three times; I once watched a bird displaying over the ruins at Tikal in Guatemala, I saw one individual in the tropical dry forest at La Botija in Honduras and a bird flew over our canoe as we traveled down the Rio Platano from Las Marias in Honduras. I know of few other sightings, though there is an old record from Walter Deininger and a friend, Jason Berry, had one fly over his car as he drove back inland after a visit to Iztapa in Guatemala.
