King Vulture

Sarcoramphus papa

Tom Jenner
This species is locally fairly common in areas where large areas of forest remain intact. Howell and Webb do not include much of the interior of northern Central America within the range of this species. However, I have seen them at Perquin in northern El Salvador, and Celaque and la Muralla in the Central Highlands of Honduras. All of these sites fall within the area excluded by the range map given by them. Other locations where I have seen this species include: El Imposible in El Salvador (which I believe is the only other known site in the country), Tarrales and Tikal in Guatemala and Las Marias and Pico Bonito in Honduras.
