Little Tinamou

Crypturellus soui

The range map in Howell and Webb shows this species as present right along the Caribbean slope of northern Central America, though absent from much of the highlands and drier areas of the interior. Like all the tinamous, this species is most easily located by its haunting call, though they can be difficult to observe well and I have never actually ‘seen’ this species in our region. Apparently, they are mainly found in second growth and forest edge. I have recorded this species by its call at La Muralla, Lancetilla, Las Marias, Pico bonito and Cerro Azul in Honduras, but I have not recorded it yet from Guatemala.
