Pink-footed Shearwater

Puffinus creatopus

Tom Jenner

On my pelagic trip off the coast of Guatemala on 11th May, we saw about 4 and on my pelagic trip off El Salvador on 2nd July, we saw 6. The El Salvador birds were possibly the first records for the country, though I believe that Alvaro Moises may have seen some on a pelagic off El Salvador only a week or two earlier. All of my sightings have been a long way from the shore (30 km at least).
Jehl did not see this species at all during intensive observations off the Pacific coast of northern Central America between 10th and 17th April 1973, though he had seen them regularly off Mexican waters to the north in days prior to this. This might suggest that they move south between April and May.
