Sharp-shinned
Hawk
Accipiter
striatus

| This species is a widespread winter
visitor to the region. Some authorities consider the White-breasted
hawk (see separate entry) to be a resident subspecies of Sharp-shin.
My only sightings of this species in El Salvador have been at
the Rio Jiboa, Cerro Verde and Walter Deininger Sanctuary. I
have seen them in Guatemala at El Palmar Viejo, on Volcan Agua
and at a site just north of Quetzaltenango (name unknown to
me) where White-breasted Hawk was also present, showing that
they do overlap on their wintering grounds. I have still never
seen this species in Honduras. |
