| This is a common to fairly common
resident throughout the region. I have seen them in a variety
of habitats ranging from open mountain areas, pine forest, over
open fields and mangroves. In 2002 I found a pair nesting on
Cerro El Pericon near Perquin in El Salvador. This was the first
breeding record for the country. On 23rd February the female
was seen carrying nesting material and on 7th April there was
a single egg. I was unable to make any further visits, so I
don’t know if any more were laid or if the nesting was
successful. The female was a pale phase bird (the commonest
form to see in the region) and the male was a dark phase bird.
The nest was about 20m up in a pine tree, situated on a fairly
steep slope. |
