In our region, this species is primarily found on the Caribbean
slope, though not in the coastal lowlands. It is also found
at mid elevations along the Pacific slope of Guatemala. It is
primarily a species that is found in upland areas and cloud
forest, though is also found in lower, drier forest in the Peten
of Guatemala. Bonta and Anderson describes this as an uncommon
species in Honduras, though Monroe cites 41 specimens from the
country, which is quite a big number. Land describes the species
as locally common in the Peten (where Beavers describes it as
rare) and Caribbean lowlands of Guatemala, but uncommon in the
subtropics and highlands. There are no records from El Salvador.
My only records from Guatemala have been from the Pacific slope
at Tarrales and Santa Maria de Jesus. My only records from Honduras
have been from Celaque and La Muralla. These records are mostly
made from hearing the calls and I have never had a really good
look at one, though Land describes them as "Easily observed
in the open understory of mature forest."
