Townsend’s Shearwater Puffinus auricularis
I did not see this species on either of my pelagic trips, which were off the coast of Guatemala on 11th May and off El Salvador on 2nd July. Jehl did not see this species at all during intensive observations off the Pacific coast of northern Central America between 10th and 17th April 1973, though he had seen one off Mexico the day before entering Guatemalan waters. Peter Kaestner (who organised my trip off Guatemala) tells me that he has seen them in pelagic trips off the coast of Guatemala, though I have no details of his sightings.
